Louisville, Ky. - University of Louisville women's golf coach Kelly Rothberg has announced that Joe Freshley has joined the coaching staff. Freshley joins the staff after recently retiring as the Assistant Principal at Butler Traditional High School.
"Joe brings a wealth of experience after working with young adults for 32 years," said head coach Kelly Rothberg. "We both looked at this opportunity for Coach Freshley to stay involved with young adults in a different atmosphere. He is excited to be involved with a team that has just won back-to-back BIG EAST titles and finished with a Top 10 showing at NCAA Championship. He loves golf and having him on staff will help us build the program even stronger."

He guided the boys squad to the 1984 Kentucky State Championship. He started the Valley High School boys team in 1988 and coached the squad for two seasons.

He also served as an assistant football coach at Stuart High School from 1978-80 and Valley High School from 1980-81.
He has been involved in the Louisville golf community for many years. Freshley sat on the KHSAA State Golf Tournament committee from 1989-90. He served as the Jefferson County West Regional Golf Manager from 1987-90. He was a Committee Co-Chairman for the 2004 Senior PGA Championship and is currently the Co-Chairman for the 2008 Ryder Cup to be held at Valhalla.
