Schaefer Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - - University of Louisville field hockey player Lauren Schaefer was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 24.
Schaefer, a junior back from Millersville, Pa., played solid defense, helping the Cardinals to a 2-0 record, including a 2-1 double overtime win against Syracuse. Schaefer was instrumental in limiting opponents to 10 combined shots and two goals on the weekend. In addition to her defensive efforts, she also dished out two assists in the 3-1 win over Saint Louis. Schaefer now leads the team with six assists.
The 16th-ranked Cardinals (6-4, 1-0 BIG EAST) will go on the road for BIG EAST matchups at No. 4 Connecticut on Friday, Sept. 28 and Providence, Sept. 30.
