
Men's Soccer Defeats Evansville 2-1 in Exhibition Play

Evansville, Ind. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team defeated Evansville 2-1 in their first exhibition game Saturday night at Evansville's Black Beauty Field. The Cardinals scored both goals in the first half holding off an Evansville rally in the second half for the win.
The Cards put just two shots on goal in the first half, but found the net on both. Newcomer Gerardo Chavez opened the scoring in the 31st minute, taking Ryan McDonald's throw-in and finding a hole in Evansville's offense seven yards in front of the goal. Ten minutes later, senior Marco Terminesi scored on a breakaway, taking a pass from Othaniel Yanez and racing behind UE's defense to beat Aces' goalkeeper Alec Dufty.
Evansville scored early in the second half with Dan Gibson's header off of Kieran Purcell's free kick in the 51st minute. But the Cardinals were able to keep the Aces scoreless the rest of the half for the win.
Evansville finished with 11 shots, seven on goal, while Louisville took a total of nine shots and put five on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper David Simolike finished with four saves in the first half while senior Trae Manny finished with two saves in the second half.
The Cardinals will finish out exhibition play on Sunday, Aug. 26 as they host Oakland in Cardinal Park at 7:00 p.m.
