
Softball Hosts Red & Black Cardinal Tournament

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville will host its second consecutive tournament - the Red & Black Cardinal Tournament March 2 and 4. The Cards will open play against Bradley on March 2 at 11 a.m. and Akron at 3 p.m. at Ulmer Stadium. Louisville play Western Kentucky Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

About Louisville
Louisville (4-7) is led offensively by freshman catcher Melissa Roth who is batting .323 with 10 hits, four runs and a .447 on-base percentage. Sophomore Brooke McCrain follows with a .296 average. Senior Catherine Bishop (2-5) carries a 2.74 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 38.1 innings. Sophomore Kassie Stanfill (2-2) has a 2.33 ERA and is holding opponents to a .202 batting average.
U of L is coming off of a 1-1 weekend in a weather-shortened Red & Black Tournament. The Cards won their home opener 7-1 over Kansas. Roth went 3 for 3 and McCrain hit a solo home run. In its final game of the tournament, Louisville lost 3-2 in the eighth inning to Iowa. The game against Kent State was canceled due to inclement weather conditions.

Scouting Bradley
The Braves (7-1) have seven players who are batting over .300 on the season. They are led offensively by senior Christine Cooney who is batting .471 with eight hits and six runs scored. Junior Jessie Musgrove is hitting .391 with nine hits and six RBI. Sophomore Ashley Birdsong (5-0) carries a 0.89 ERA with 51 strikeouts in 32.2 innings and is holding opponents to a .147 batting average.

Scouting Akron
Akron (2-3) is led by sophomore Cali Stratton who is batting .400 on the season with six hits and three RBI. Junior Katrina Moffett follows with a .357 batting average. Sophomore Julie Boyes (1-2) has posted a 4.06 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 20.2 innings.

Scouting Western Kentucky
The Hilltoppers (4-11) are currently on a nine game losing streak, but five of those games have come at the hands of top 20 opponents, including No. 18 Georgia, No. 22 Georgia and No. 5 Alabama. Western Kentucky is led by freshman Lindsay Antone who is batting .300 with 12 hits, eight runs, three home runs and eight RBI. Senior Renikka Toliver is hitting .294 with 10 hits and is 5 for 5 in stolen bases. Sophomore Jennifer Kempf (2-6) holds a 3.33 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 48.1 innings. Sophomore Ryan Rogge (2-5) has a 3.52 ERA with 40 strikeouts in 57.2 innings.
Up Next
U of L will travel to College Park, Md. for the Maryland Invitational March 9-11. The Cards will face Princeton at 2 p.m. and Maryland at 6 p.m. on March 9. Rhode Island and Central Connecticut are also competing in the tournament.
