
U of L Athletics Recognized for Excellence in Diversity

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville is one of ten universities across the nation that have been recognized in overall excellence in diversity with the 2006-07 Diversity in Athletics Award.
The award is presented annually by the Laboratory for Diversity in Sport at Texas A&M University, which acknowledges NCAA Division I-A athletic departments that excel in various areas of diversity. U of L was specifically recognized in overall excellence in diversity and in the graduation of African American female student-athletes.
"This ranking is further proof that Tom Jurich (U of L Vice President and Director of Athletics) and his staff are building a model program that values and encourages each student athlete," said U of L President Dr. James Ramsey. "We're proud of our athletic department's efforts on and off the field.*
Other universities honored for attaining overall excellence in diversity include Akron, Ball State, Buffalo, Kansas, Louisiana-Monroe, Northwestern, Purdue, Stanford and Washington State. A total of 249 universities participated in the study which recognizes excellence in seven areas: diversity strategy, sex diversity of department employees, racial diversity of department employees, graduation of African American male student athletes, graduation of African American female student athletes, Title IX compliance, and overall excellence in diversity.
