
Softball Hosts Red & Black Tournament

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville (3-6) will host its first tournament of the 2007 season - the Red & Black Tournament. The Cards will play their home opener Friday, Feb. 23 at 4 p.m. Kent State and Iowa are also competing in the tournament.

About Louisville
Louisville (3-6) is led offensively by senior Audrey Rendon who is batting .290 with nine hits and three runs scored. Senior Courtney Moore follows with a .286 batting average and three runs scored. The leads the team with two home runs and four RBI. The Cardinals have fallen out of the top 25, but are receiving votes in both polls, placing them at No. 26 in the NFCA Softball and No. 31 in the USA Softball rankings.
U of L is coming off of a 1-2 weekend at No. 21 Fresno State. Courtney Moore led the team over the weekend, batting .444 (4 for 9) with a home run, two runs score and two RBI. Her two-run homer proved to be the game-winner in the Cards' 6-4 win over No. 21 Fresno State. Moore had at least one hit in each game and went 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBI in the win.
Cardinals vs. Kansas

Series Record: Kansas leads 2-0.
Last Meeting: March 11-12, 2005 - KU won 12-2 and 4-2 in Lawrence.
Notes: The Jayhawks handed the Cardinals their worst loss in program history, the 12 runs Kansas scored were the most runs allowed in Louisville history. The Cards also gave up a school record four home runs against.

Kansas (5-3-1) is receiving votes in the ESPN.com/USA Softball coaches poll. The Jayhawks are currently on a three-game winning streak: defeating No. 22 Florida State 1-0, Jacksonville 10-2 and Memphis 5-2. KU is led offensively by Sophomore catcher Elle Pottorf and freshman first baseman Amanda Jobe, both of whom are hitting .421 on the season. Senior pitcher Kassic Humphreys (4-0) has posted a team-best 1.52 ERA and has 32 strikeouts in 32.1 innings of work.

Scouting Kent State
Kent State (4-0) is undefeated on the season with wins over Ohio University, Campbell, UNC-Greensboro and Morehead State. The Golden Flashes are led at the plate by junior first baseman Jamie Fitzpatrick who is batting .583 with seven hits , two home runs and four RBI. Freshman pitcher Kylie Reynolds (2-0) has not allowed a run and struck out 27 in 11.2 innings while senior Brittney Robinson (2-0) has a 1.50 ERA with 24 K's in 14.0 innings of work.

Scouting Iowa
Iowa (6-4) is coming off of a 10-4 win over Idaho State. The Hawkeyes also have wins over UC Riverside, Stetson, Marist and Howard. Iowa's losses have come to Stetson, Illinois State, North Carolina and Arizona State. The Hawkeyes are led by junior catcher/infielder Emily Nichols who is batting .563 with 12 hits, three home runs and 12 runs scored. Junior Stephanie Ackerson (3-1) has posted a 1.30 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 27 innings. Freshman Amanda Zust (3-3) has a 2.36 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 32.2 innings.
Up Next
U of L will host the Red & Black Cardinal Tournament March 2-4 at Ulmer Stadium. Akron, Western Kentucky and Bradley will participate in the tournament.
