Louisville, Ky. - Maria Castellanos and Anna-Karin Ljungstrom have signed national letters of intent to play golf at the University of Louisville next season. Catellanos is a senior at Jensen Beach while Ljungstrom is from Skovde, Sweden.
Catellanos was named the Player of the Year in the state of Florida this fall. She won the District 19-1A championship after carding a 78. She then won the Region 7-1A Championship after shooting a 67. She finished tied for fourth in the state tournament with a score of 149 in two rounds.
"We are very excited that Maria has decided to come to Louisville," said head coach Kelly Rothberg. "She is a hard worker, a team player and a very driven young lady. She is the best in the state of Florida and we are looking forward to her contributions next season. She will definitely make an impact on this team."
Ljungstrom has been playing golf in Sweden for nine years. She has a handicap of 2.3. She finished third in the Sweden Junior Masters. She is ranked 12th in her class in Sweden.
"It was nice to tap into the golf talent from Sweden with Anna-Karin," said Rothberg. "The sport of golf has exploded in Sweden and Anna-Karin is proof of that. She is a very hard worker and a very competitive player. She will definitely impact the team next season."
