
Women's Basketball Downs Vermont 87-52

Burlington, Vt. - The Louisville women's basketball team started the game with a 17-2 run to set the tone early in their 87-52 defeat of Vermont on Wednesday evening in Patrick Gymnasium. Five Cardinals scored in double figures while Angel McCoughtry led the way with 19 points in just 14 minutes played. Chauntise Wright scored a season-high 18 points and Candyce Bingham tallied her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Keshia Hines scored 11 points while Brandie Radde added 10 to round out the top scorers. Courtnay Pilypaitis led Vermont with 13 points.
Louisville jumped out to a 17-2 run in the first four minutes of the game. The Catamounts cut the lead to 11 three times in the first half the last time was at the 4:41 mark in the first half to cut the lead to 35-24. Louisville then closed out the half with an 11-2 run sparked by Bingham's nine points to finish the half with a 46-26 lead.
Vermont hit a 3-pointer to start the second half but could never get any closer. The Cardinals continued to slowly build on their lead from the first half. The Louisville defense held Vermont without a field goal for a seven minute stretch late in the half, building a 38 point lead with just under four minutes remaining.
Louisville was impressive in the paint, scoring 54 points. The Cardinals turned 21 Catamount turnovers into 28 points. Louisville also had 21 second chance points.
The Cardinals finished the game shooting 47.9 percent from the field while holding Vermont to 32.8 percent shooting. Louisville shot 40 percent from behind the arc while the Catamounts shot 23.1 percent. Louisville outrebounded Vermont 54-32.
Louisville will continue the four game road stint on Sunday against Western Kentucky at 2:00 p.m. in Diddle Arena.
