
Women's Basketball Defeats Hoosier Lady Stars 84-50

Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's basketball team defeated the Hoosier Lady Stars 84-50 in exhibition play on Tuesday evening in Freedom Hall. Four Cardinals scored in double figures with All-American Angel McCoughtry leading the way with 18 points. Candyce Bingham, Chauntise Wright and Keisha Hines recorded double-doubles for the Cardinals as well.
The Cardinals jumped out to an 8-0 lead to start the game. Former Cardinal Helen Johnson hit a three-pointer at the 17:18 mark to end the Lady Star's scoring drought. Louisville built a 16-7 lead with 11:48 remaining in the half. The Lady Stars then went on a 8-0 run highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers to cut the lead to one with 9:56 remaining. Louisville answered with a 5-0 run of the own to push the lead to six (21-15).
The Lady Stars stayed in the game by knocking down three-ponters. A jumper by Abby Sharlow at the 4:37 mark tied the game at 25. Wright hit one of two from the line to give the Cards a one point lead. The Lady Stars answered and took their first lead of the game when Amanda Norris hit two free throws with four minutes remaining. Louisville finished out the half with an 9-1 run to finish the half with a 35-28 lead.
The Cardinals used the second half to pull away from the Lady Stars. Louisville started the second half with a 12-3 run to go ahead 47-31 with 14:09 remaining. Tina Bolte hit a three-pointer to spark a 10-6 run to cut the lead to 12 with just over 10 minutes remaining. Louisville responded with a 13-0 run to take a 66-41 lead at the 7:25 mark. Amy Amstutz-Watson hit two free throws to end the drought but it was not enough as the Cards went on a 9-0 run to put the game out of reach.
The Cardinals finished the game shoting 45.3 percent from the field while holding the Lady Start to just 21.3 percent shooting. The Cardinals won the rebounding battle, outrebounding the Lady Stars 63-35.
Louisville will wrap up exhibition play on Saturday, Nov. 3 as they host the All-Star Girls Report at 7:30 p.m. at the Kentucky International Convention Center.
