
Heller Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - - For the second week in a row, University of Louisville field hockey goalkeeper Marie-Claire Heller was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and Allison Maffitt was selected to the league honor roll.
Heller, a senior from Chapel Hill, N.C., registered a shutout against BIG EAST opponent Villanova - her second consecutive league shutout- and allowed only one goal to Ohio State to help the Cards to a 2-0 record on the week. Heller posted eight saves - six against OSU and two against Villanova for an .889 save percentage and a 0.50 goals against average.
Maffitt, a senior forward from Houston scored the winning goal in the 2-0 Villanova win and added an assist in the 2-1 win over Ohio State. Maffitt now leads the team with nine goals and 21 points.
No. 14-ranked U of L (11-5) currently stands in first place in the BIG EAST with a 4-1 league record. Louisville will play host to Stanford on Friday. That game will be televised by WHAS 11 and air later in the week.
