- QB Brian Brohm completed 24-of-34 for 311 yards, his third straight game passing for more than 300 yards and marked the third highest total accomplished in the Orange Bowl. He boosted his season total to 3,049 yards, becoming only the fourth quarterback in school history to throw for more than 3,000 yards in a season.
- WR Harry Douglas recorded his fourth 100-yard receiving game of the season by catching 10 passes for 165 yards. Douglas broke the school record for receiving yards in a season with 1,265, breaking J.R. Russell's mark of 1,213 yards in 2004. He extended his streak of consecutive receptions to 15 straight games. WR Mario Urrutia also has a 15-game streak with at least one reception.
- RB Kolby Smith rushed for 82 yards on 16 carries, his fourth-best effort of the year and sixth highest for his career. The senior from Tallahassee, Fla. Also had two catches for 34 yards.
- Head coach Bobby Petrino improved to 2-2 in bowl games as head coach of the Cardinals. He defeated Boise State, 44-40, in the 2004 Liberty Bowl. He lost to Miami (OH), 49-28, in the 2003 GMAC Bowl and 35-24 in the 2006 Gator Bowl.
- Wake Forest was the fourth ranked opponent that the Cardinals played this season, the second-most by any team in the BIG EAST Conference (Cincinnati played five). Louisville went 3-1 against ranked foes this season.
- The Cardinals improved to 6-7-1 all-time in bowl games. U of L's victory improves the BIG EAST Conference's bowl record this season to 4-0 with one game remaining.
- OG Kurt Quarterman started his team-high 37th straight game.
- The Cardinals turned the ball over at least once in all 13 games this season, but won the turnover margin 3-2. U of L's defense, which entered the game third in the nation in sacks, produced four sacks tonight.
- CB Rod Council started in place of the injured Gavin Smart at cornerback. It was Council's third start of the year.
- With his 41-yard field goal in the second quarter, junior placekicker Art Carmody set the BIG EAST record for points scored by a kicker with 123. He breaks the old mark of 119 points by Todd Sievers of Miami in 2001.
- Former quarterback Patrick Carter threw his first career touchdown pass to running back Anthony Allen, who also caught his career touchdown pass. He's the first non-quarterback to throw a touchdown pass in the Orange Bowl since Mike Rozier of Nebraska in 1983 Orange Bowl.
