South Bend, Ind. - Notre Dame's Heather Booth posted her second one-hitter of the day as she led the Irish to the 2006 BIG EAST Championship crown with a 1-0 win over top-seeded Louisville.
For her efforts throughout the championship, Booth was named the championship's Most Outstanding Player. Booth earned the win for ND, throwing her second one-hitter of the day. Against the Cardinals, the senior threw a complete-game, posting seven strikeouts. Her first one-hitter of the day came against Pittsburgh in the second semifinal earlier in the afternoon.
Taking the loss of Louisville was Kady Garrick. Garrick threw four innings allowing one run on six hits. In relief, Catherine Bishop, the 2006 BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year, saw three innings of work and struck out six of the nine batters she faced.
The lone run of the game was scored in the top of the first inning when Stephanie Brown, who led off the inning with a double, scored on a bunt single by Mallorie Lenn.
Both Notre Dame and Louisville will now participate in the 2006 NCAA Women's Softball Championship, which begins May 19. ND will travel to Evanston, Ill. and face off against UC-Santa Barbara, while Louisville travels to Knoxville and will face Virginia Tech.
