
Softball Set for Syracuse and Pittsburgh

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The No. 21/23 ranked Cardinals (26-8, 5-3) will play host to Syracuse (27-16, 11-3) in a BIG EAST doubleheader Friday at 4 p.m. at Ulmer Stadium. U of L looks to snap a season-long three game losing streak after falling to intra-state rival Kentucky 3-1 Wednesday at Ulmer Stadium.
U of L carries a 26-8 (5-3 BIG EAST) record into the Syracuse doubleheader and is batting .282 as a team. Senior catcher Lacy Wood is currently on a season-high nine game hitting streak and leads the team with a .394 batting average, 14 doubles and 29 RBI. Junior shortstop Courtney Moore follows, hitting .378 with five home runs, 24 RBI and 27 runs scored. Freshman Brittney Counts continues to move up among the top Cardinal batters with a .333 average. Junior third baseman Audrey Rendon rounds out the .300 hitters with a .327 average, 26 runs and 11 stolen bases.
Junior RHP Catherine Bishop leads the team with a 17-5 record and a 0.82 ERA. She has 135 strikeouts in 137.1 innings and is holding opponents to a .152 batting average. Sophomore Kady Garrick (6-2) holds a 1.39 ERA and is holding opponents to a .183 batting average with 47 strikeouts in 60.1 innings.
Scouting the Orange:
Syracuse enters the game with a 27-16 (11-3) record. The Orange are currently third in league standings. SU is batting .289 as a team and is second in the BIG EAST in that category and leads with a .459 slugging percentage. Alexis Switenko leads the conference in home runs (14), slugging percentage (.817) and total bases (98). Switenko also leads in the circle with a 2.42 ERA and a 10-2 record. Heather Kim brings a .382 batting average into the series and is second on the team with 30 RBI. Tonye McCorkle is third on the team with a .368average, 23 RBI and 26 runs. Rachel Tilford (.306) and Kim Weinstein (.303) round out the .300 hitters.
Erin Downey leads the BIG EAST with 224 strikeouts and 18 wins. She holds a 2.75 ERA and a .239 opponent batting average.
On Deck The Cardinals will continue their home stand with a doubleheader against BIG EAST opponent Pittsburgh Sunday at 11 a.m. That game will be produced by WHAS-TV and will air on a delayed basis on Insight Communications cable channel 2 on Monday, April 24 at 11 p.m. The announcers are WHAS sports anchor Erik Waxler and former Louisville catcher Lisa (McMillan) Pinkston.
