
No. 18 Softball Set to Host USF Saturday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The No. 18-ranked University of Louisville softball team will play host to USF in a BIG EAST Conference doubleheader Saturday at noon at Ulmer Stadium.
The Cardinals enter the USF series with a 26-5 overall record and a 5-1 mark in BIG EAST play. U of L is led offensively by junior shortstop Courtney Moore's .416 batting average, five home runs, 27 runs scored and a .741 slugging percentage. The Cards also have four players batting above .300. Senior catcher Lacy Wood is hitting .389 with a team-leading 28 RBI and 13 doubles. Senior second baseman Michelle Vasquez follows with a .311 batting average, four home runs and 20 RBI. Junior third baseman Audrey Rendon is tied for fourth on the team with a .311 average, second on the team with 26 runs and is 10 for 12 in stolen bases. Freshman outfielder Kristi Cunningham rounds our the over .300 hitters with a .302 average, four home runs and 14 runs scored.
Junior RHP Catherine Bishop leads the team, and the conference, with a 17-2 record. Her 0.56 earned run average also leads the league and is fourth nationally. Sophomore Kady Garrick is second on the team with a 6-2 record and a 1.61ERA. Garrick's .186 opponent batting average is second in the BIG EAST - behind Bishop's .140 opponent batting average.
Series record: USF leads 12-11
Last meeting: 5/12/05 - C-USA Tournament in Tampa. Courtney Moore blasted a two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give the Cards a 5-4 win over the host Bulls in the C-USA tournament.
Scouting the Bulls: USF enters the series with a 36-19 record and stand in first place in the BIG EAST with a perfect 6-0 league tally. The Bulls are led offensively by Krista Holle who is hitting .348 with a conference-leading 55 hits and 34 runs which place her second in league standings. Christie Chapman follows with a .325 record, six home runs and 34 RBI. Tiffany Stewart leads the teamand the league with 36 home runs and is second in the conferece with eight home runs. Cristi Ecks, the most recent BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, has a team-best 1.10 ERA with 157 strikeouts in 153.0 innings of work. Bree Spence (16-6) follows closely with a 1.23 ERA.
