Softball Set for Evansville Softball Tournament

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The No. 21/22 ranked University of Louisville softball team will travel to Evansville, Ind., March 11-12 for the Evansville Tournament. The Cards will play Ohio State at 11 a.m. and Evansville at 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Evansville's Cooper Stadium.
The Cardinals (13-2) are off to best start in program history. Louisville is led offensively by junior shortstop Courtney Moore, who is batting .442 with 14 RBI and six doubles. Senior Lacy Wood follows with a .372 average, 12 RBI and six doubles. In the circle, junior RHP Catherine Bishop (7-1) posts a team-leading 0.56 ERA with 45 strikeouts in 50.0 innings. Redshirt freshman Kady Garrick carries a 4-0 record and 0.99 ERA into the weekend.
The Buckeyes enter the tournament with a 9-10 record and are coming off of a 3-2 record in Alabama with a win over the No. 6-ranked Crimson Tide. Ohio State is led by sophomore Liz Caputo who is batting .364 on the season. Senior Stacy Hibma carries a .313 batting average. Freshman Courtney Pruner has belted out four home runs and a team-leading 11 RBI. In the circle, junior RHP Jamee Juarez (5-5) has a 3.56 ERA in 13 appearances. This will be Louisville's first-ever meeting with Ohio State (9-10).
Evansville brings a 10-6 record into their tournament, where they are 5-1 at home this season. UE is led offensively by senior Alicia Laraway is hitting .435 with eight home runs and 18 RBI. Sophomore Brittany Herald is hitting .366 with 14 runs scored. Freshman Ashley Hobbs (6-3) leads the pitching staff with 1.63 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 60.0 innings.
The Purple Aces represent one of the longest running non-conference rivalries for the Cards. Since U of L's program began in 2000, Evansville has been on the schedule at least once a year. The teams have met 14 times in the past six years, the only other non-conference opponent the Cards have faced more is Kentucky (15 times).
