
Softball Moves to No. 21/22 in Rankings

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville softball team is ranked No. 21 in the NFCA/USA Today poll and No. 22 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Division I Top 25 Softball poll, marking the highest rankings in program history. The Cardinals (9-1) entered the top 25 rankings for the first time last week, appearing at No. 24 in the NFCA/USA Today poll.
Louisville is off to a program-best 9-1 start, reeling off nine straight wins to open the season before falling 3-2 to Illinois State Friday in the NFCA Leadoff Classic. Prior to that game, the Cards defeated then-No. 12/13 Northwestern 2-0 to open the tournament. Junior Courtney Moore leads the team with a .433 batting average, two home runs, four doubles and 11 RBI. Junior Candi Hicks follows with a .357 average, 10 runs and eight RBI. Junior Catherine Bishop (5-0) has a team-best 0.44 ERA, with 27 strikeouts and is holding opponents to a .106 batting average.
The Cardinals return to Ulmer Stadium for their home opening Red & Black Classic March 4-5. Louisville will face Wright State (0-5) at 1 p.m. and Western Kentucky (9-7) at 3 p.m. Louisville and Akron (4-3) will play Sunday at 1 p.m.
