
Softball Opens Season at Florida State

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville softball team will open the 2006 season at Florida State's Early Bird Tournament Feb. 10-11. The Cards will face Nicholls State Friday, Feb. 10 at 1:30 p.m. followed by a 4 p.m. matchup with host Florida State. U of L will play Samford Saturday, Feb. 11 at 11:00 a.m.
U of L is coming off of a record-setting 43-20 season in which the Cards won the Conference USA regular season title and earned their second consecutive NCAA at-large bid. The pitching staff set team records with 26 shutouts and 457 strikeout and boasted a 1.78 while holding opponents to a .175 batting average. The Cardinal offense backed them up with a school-record 57 home runs, 31 triples and 300 runs scored. Their team batting average of .314 and .499 slugging percentage ranked ninth in the nation, while they were fourth in the nation in triples per game.
Louisville returns 13 letterwinners from last year's record-setting team including all-conference team members Catherine Bishop, Audrey Rendon and Lacy Wood as well as the 2005 C-USA Co-MVP, Courtney Moore.
