LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville President James Ramsey has stated throughout the fall semester that keeping Tom Jurich at the University of Louisville is a priority.
Today, the U of L Athletic Association Board showed its agreement by approving several revisions and granting Ramsey permission to negotiate further details on Jurich's contract as vice president for intercollegiate athletics.
The board voted to increase Jurich's salary from $364,508 to $440,008, which will raise his compensation to the top echelon among athletics directors and encourage him to finish his career as a member of the Cardinal family, Ramsey said. He cited Jurich's leadership and the Athletics Department's success in a variety of areas, including fielding competitive teams in all sports, raising academic standards and performance, promoting gender equity and serving as a model of NCAA compliance.
"By any measure, Tom's performance as vice president for athletics ranks among the nation's very best," Ramsey said. "His compensation should reflect that stature."
"I am very pleased that Dr. Ramsey and the U of L Athletic Association have shown me such confidence and support," Jurich said. "I think we've built a tremendous team at the University of Louisville, both on the field and in the classroom. My family and I look forward to being here a long time."
The board also approved:
Extending the roll-over clause in Jurich's contract by two years. Currently, the contract runs through 2016, then automatically renews each year through age 65. The revision extends the annual rollovers through age 67.
Increasing his deferred compensation by $15,000 per year.
Other terms are still being negotiated, Ramsey said.
