The University of Louisville women's tennis team will play 16 opponents at home as a part of their 2005-06 schedule which head coach Greg Davis announced today.
"We are excited about the 2005-06 schedule. The fall will be very challenging with the addition of the Rice Invitational and the Illinois Classic," said Davis. "At Illinois, it will be the Illini, Notre Dame and William & Mary along with us. We feel very privileged to be invited to that event."
The Cardinals, coming off their third consecutive 20-win season, will face several new schools this coming year.
"I feel the spring of 2006 is the most challenging schedule since I took over," said Davis. "Matches with Kentucky, Michigan State, Kansas, Ohio State, South Alabama, Illinois, Auburn and Indiana give us an opportunity to compete against teams that year in and year out make the NCAA tournament."
This will mark the first year the Cardinals compete in the Big East. U of L will face Cincinnati, DePaul and Marquette during the regular season in anticipation of the BIG EAST Championship hosted by South Florida this April.
"The teams on the rest of the schedule will demand the most out of our team, not just in matches but they way we practice everyday in order to be successful," said Davis.
