
Softball Set for Conference USA Tournament

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville softball team is set to travel to Tampa May 12-14 for the 2005 Conference USA tournament hosted by South Florida. The top-seeded Cards earned a first-round bye in the tournament and will face the winner of Houston/USF Thursday at 6:30 (EDT).
The Cardinals (40-16) notched a school-record 20-4 mark in C-USA and are on a program-best 14-game win streak. Louisville led offensively by sophomore shortstop Courtney Moore who has a .407 batting average, 13 home runs and 47 RBI. Sophomore third baseman Audrey Rendon is close behind with a .397 average and leads the team with 10 triples and 46 run. She is also a perfect 25 for 25 in stolen bases. Junior Lacy Wood is hitting .372 with nine home runs, 10 doubles and 33 RBI. As a team, the Cards carry a .311 batting average with a school-record 49 home runs and 31 triples on the year.
The circle features a pair of formidable pitchers in sophomore Catherine Bishop and senior Aja Sherman. Bishop (20-7) leads with a 1.17 ERA and is holding opposing teams to a .161 batting average. She has 11 shutouts and one no-hitter on the season. Sherman (20-9) has registered a program-record 237 strikeouts this year and has posted 12 shutouts and two no-hitters. Sherman has a 1.94 ERA and is holding opponents to a .177 batting average. Together, Bishop and Sherman combine for a 1.56 team ERA and opponents are hitting .169 against them. In addition to their individual shutouts, they have combined for two, giving the Cards a school record 25 shutouts this season.
