LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Kyle Moats, senior associate athletic director at Marquette University for the past two years, has joined the University of Louisville athletics staff as National Marketing Director for the Cardinals.
"We're incredibly pleased to add someone of Kyle's experience, knowledge of this area and love for the state of Kentucky on our staff," said Tom Jurich, Vice President for Athletics at U of L. "He comes as highly recommended as anyone I've ever hired. We've been ambitious and aggressive with our growth and Kyle is the type of energetic person to help us maintain that upward movement."
In his new role at U of L, Moats will coordinate the Cardinals' efforts in national awareness and branding opportunities, marketing, advertising, and group ticket sales. He will work closely with Nelligan Sports Marketing, which manages the exclusive marketing rights for Cardinal Athletics.
"I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work for one of the premier college athletics programs under the direction of one of the best athletic directors in the nation," said Moats. "What Tom and his staff have accomplished here is unbelievable. I'm excited to be part of a progressive, visionary program which has the support of university administration, coaches, support staff and a passionate fan base. My family and I are extremely fortunate to be able to come back to a place we love and where we have so many friends. I look forward to being a part of the Cardinals and the challenge of making U of L a BIG EAST power and a national contender in all sports."
"I think U of L has hit a home run by getting Kyle Moats to come there," said C.M. Newton, who Moats worked under during much of his stint at Kentucky. "He did a wonderful job for us at the university and will do the same at Louisville. I'm sure he was ready to come back to Kentucky wehre he has so many friends and contacts. It's just a home run for Tom Jurich and his staff."
For the past two years at Marquette, Moats oversaw the Golden Eagles' Blue and Gold Fund, media relations, ticket operation, special events, licensing, radio, television, marketing and promotions and sponsorships with NSM, which has the marketing rights for several BIG EAST Conference schools.
Prior to his work at Marquette, he worked 14 years in the University of Kentucky athletic department, including his last three there as Associate Athletics Director for Marketing. He joined the UK staff as a graduate assistant in the athletics office in 1989 and in 1991 was promoted to Coordinator of Promotions and Special Events. He became the Wildcats' Director of Marketing, Promotions and Licensing in 1993 before being named Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing in 1996. He served as tournament manager for the 1993 NCAA Golf Championships and the 1996 and 1998 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament events in Lexington.
