Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer schedule features 7 of 18 teams that participated in postseason play last season. The Cardinals will kick off the season on the road against the Kentucky Wildcats. The nonconference home schedule features the 2004 National Champion Indiana Hoosiers and NCAA participant Ohio State.
"The 2005 schedule is the toughest schedule in school history," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "The nonconference schedule includes national champion Indiana and three other Big 10 schools in Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State, all of which advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Big East is traditionally one of the best soccer conferences in college soccer if not the best."
The Cardinals will kick off the inaugural BIG EAST season at home against Cincinnati. The Cards will play Providence and NCAA participant UConn at home in September. In October, Louisville will host Rutgers, Syracuse and South Florida. Louisville will travel to Notre Dame, Marquette, Villanova, DePaul and Elite Eight participant St. John's.
UConn will host the BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals and championship game.
"We want to play the best competition in order to elevate the program to new heights," said Colavecchia. "I think every college player wants to play this kind of schedule, each game means so much. The Louisville soccer community deserves to see the best college soccer at Cardinal Park."
