
Cardinal Varsity 8+ Crew Edged by No. 10 Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Louisville rowing team continued its challenging early season schedule with four competitive races against No. 10 ranked Tennessee on Saturday morning.
In the closest race of the day, the Cardinals' Varsity 8+ boat battled the Lady Vols throughout and were edged by less than :05 seconds as Tennessee finished with a time of 6 minutes, 29.08 seconds followed by U of L's 6:33.21.
"I thought we did a nice job of competing against a very, very good crew," said U of L head coach Richard Ruggieri. "We've got to continue to work hard and find more speed, but we're making great progress and it's helping us to race against some of the stronger teams in the nation."
In the Cards' spring season opener on March 13, U of L was edged by less than :05 seconds in a pair of closely contested races against No. 24 Minnesota.
In the Varsity 4+ race, Tennessee's "A" boat claimed the victory with a time of 7:29.66, followed by of UT "B" at 7:32.12 and Louisville in third with a time of 7:40.91.
In the Second Varsity 8+ race, the Lady Vols jumped out to a quick lead over the Cardinals and held on for the win with a time of 6:40.59, followed by U of L at 6:58.26.
In the morning's final event, the Novice 8+ race, the Tennessee "A" boat finished first with a 7:06.12 followed by U of L in second with a 7:22.29 and the Lady Vols' "B" boat was third with 7:37.82.
Up next, the Cards will have a week away from competition before racing against Indiana and Notre Dame on April 9 in Indianapolis, Ind.
