
Javelet Named BIG EAST Co-Offensive Player of the Year

University of Louisville field hockey player Jessica Javelet was named the 2005 BIG EAST Co-Offensive Player of the Year, she shared the honor with Villanova's Rory Rogers. Javelet joins teammates Janelle Avila and Rachel Overton on the BIG EAST first team while Lisa Wasser and April White earned second team honors.
Javelet, a native of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. (Torrey Pines HS), is a three-time BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honoree. She led the nation in scoring with 30 goals, 14 assists for 74 points in 2005. The junior midfielder contributed eight goals and two assists for 18 points against league opponents to highlight a U of L offense that led the conference in scoring with 26 goals and 22 assists in its first season as a member of the BIG EAST.
Avila, a sophomore forward from North Kingstown, R.I. (North Kingston HS), is second on the team and third in the nation with 20 goals and 48 points. She was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the week on Sept. 11.
Overton, a senior defender from Newbury Park, Calif. (Newbury Park HS), is a three-year starter and currently has four goals and six assists on the season. She was selected to play in the National Field Hockey Association North/South Senior All-Star game.
Wasser, a junior midfielder from Dallas, Pa. (Lake Lehman HS), is also a three-year starter and the team field captain. She has amassed four goals and is currently tied for second on the team with 10 assists.
White, a senior midfielder from Louisville, Ky. (Ballard HS) is a three-year starter with seven assists on the season. She was selected to play in the National Field Hockey Association North/South Senior All-Star game.
No. 12 Louisville (14-6) will play No. 14 Connecticut (14-5) Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 pm.
The BIG EAST Championship finals will be played Sunday Nov. 6 at noon and will be televised nationally on ESPNU on same-day delay at 5:00 p.m. Eastern. The winner of the conference tournament will earn the league's automatic berth to the 16-team NCAA Division I Championship.
