LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Junior Jamie Craft's ninth goal of the season in the 17th minute proved to be enough, as the University of Louisville women's soccer team kept USF winless in the BIG EAST with a 1-0 victory Friday night.
"I thought we came out aggressively and created a ton of attacking chances in the first half," said Head Coach Karen Ferguson. Louisville (10-5-0, 5-3-0 BIG EAST) outshot the Bulls 11-1 in the first stanza, paced by Craft and Monique Gjini, who each had four.
"We were a little more complacent in the second half, but did enough to win the match."
Sophomore Laura Walker found junior Jamie Craft on the left side and put her in against the keeper 1v1 where she tucked it into the net on the lower left side at 16:43 on the game's only goal.
"It was kind of awkward because the first touch was off my shoulder, but it was just like the other chances I had tonight," Craft said.
The goal was Craft's ninth of the season and seventh in BIG EAST play. Craft now has 31 career goals and 71 points, placing her second behind Jennifer Coe who netted 40 goals and amassed 87 points from 1985-88.
Walker narrowly missed a goal of her own, just sliding a shot wide of the far post in the 23rd minute and Craft missed her second of the match just minutes later with a carbon copy of Walker's miss.
Louisville outshot the Bulls (5-6-3, 0-5-3 BIG EAST) 11-1 again in the second stanza, with Craft finishing the match with ten shots.
Tiffany Hansen got the start in net and only needed to turn away one shot for her first shutout of the season, and seventh for the Cards as a team.
The Cardinals host 12th-ranked Marquette on Sunday at Cardinal Park at 1:00 p.m. ET. Admission is free.
