
Cardinals Set to Compete at Saturday's Ohio State Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's track and field team will return from a week away from competition at the Ohio State Invitational on Saturday at French Fieldhouse on the campus of Ohio State University in Columbus. The meet, which includes teams from Ball State, Kent State, Marshall and Xavier among others, is scheduled to begin at noon ET with the field events and will close at approximately 5:40 p.m. with the 4x400-meter relay.
The Cardinals opened the 2005 indoor season by winning eight event titles at the Purdue Invitational on Jan. 15 and U of L head coach Ron Mann is looking forward to Saturday's trip to OSU.
"We were very happy with our showing at Purdue, and we're excited to see what kind of progress we've made during the off week as we continue to work towards earning qualifying marks for the Conference USA Championships," Mann said. "We're also excited about going to Columbus and competing in of our predominant feeder states for recruiting."
The Cardinals have athletes entered in the weight throw, pole vault, long jump, high jump, triple jump, 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles, mile run, shot put, 400-meter dash, 600-meter dash, 800-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 3,000-meter run and 4x400-meter relay. At Purdue, Cardinal senior Jacey Hughes set a new school record in the pole vault with her first-place mark of 12 feet, 5.5 inches, while sophomore Aajah Showell won a pair of individual titles in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash while also running the opening leg of the Cards' first-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay.
Following this weekend's meet in Columbus, the Cards will compete at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame on Feb. 4-5 in South Bend, Ind. A complete recap of the Ohio State Invitational will be available here at www.UofLSports.com following the completion of the meet on Saturday night.
