
Nord Earns Academic Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - University of Louisville softball player Shannon Nord was named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Softball second team.
Nord, a senior leftfielder from Jeffersonville, Ind., was a two-time C-USA first team selection and was named to the NCAA Region 2 and the C-USA all-tournament teams. She led the Cards in runs scored with 38 and was second with a .372 batting average. After transferring to U of L as a sophomore, Nord stands at second on the school's list for career stolen bases with 39 and second with a career batting average of .344.
In the classroom, Nord had a 3.68 grade point average going into her final semester while double-majoring in psychology and education. She is a two-time CoSIDA Academic District IV honoree, a two-time C-USA Commissioner's List recipient and was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll five times. Nord was also named to the 2003 Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar first team.
The 2004 CoSIDA University Division Softball Academic All-District IV team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee.
To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.
The 2004 U of L softball team finished with a program-best 41-19 record and earned its first trip to the NCAA Regionals. The Cards fourth-seeded Cardinals went 1-2 in the regionals, falling 2-0 to eventual national champion UCLA.
