
Faber Finishes Third in Heptathlon at Conference USA Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's track and field team is in sixth place after day two of the Conference USA Championship Friday. The three-day event is being held at Cardinal Park.
The Louisville women have 21 points after seven events. South Florida leads the race at 38 points, followed by Houston (35), Tulane (34), Southern Miss (31) and Cincinnati (31).
Senior Kelly Faber placed third in the heptathlon event with 4896 points. In the final event of the seven-event scored competition, Faber knocked three seconds off her personal-best in the 800-meter run (2:21.77) to climb from sixth to third.
Faber also advanced to Saturday's finals in the 100-meter hurdles after breaking her own school record in the preliminaries. She finished the race in 14.36 seconds, improving her record by .01 seconds.
Freshman Holly Geibel led the Cardinal throwers with a third-place effort with a throw of 129-6. Freshman Jill Andres also scored for U of L as she placed eighth in the discus with a mark of 140-5, a new freshman record and the 10th best by a Cardinal.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase, senior Laine Hamman finished sixth with a time of 11:17.16, the second-best time in school history.
Senior Amanda Bell also advanced to the finals in the race as she turned in the fifth-best 1500-meter preliminary time of 4:41.43.
Junior Anita Winters-Dixon ran the sixth-best 200-meter dash time in school history (25.15) to place 15th in the preliminaries. Freshman Kelly Ennis also had a big day as she ran the sixth fastest time ever by a Cardinal in the 400-meter dash (57.91) to finish 16th in the preliminaries.
On Thursday, sophomore Emily Kost was the only Cardinal women's scorer during the first day. Kost placed fourth in the hammer throw with a personal-best throw of 157-4, the third best mark ever by a UofL sophomore.
The final of the C-USA Championship begins Saturday at 9 a.m. Due to heavy rains, three events were postponed Friday and will be held Saturday. The men's long jump will begin at 9 a.m., the women's pole vault will resume at 11 a.m. and the women's high jump will be staged at 1 p.m. All other events will remain as scheduled.
Tickets for the event are $7 for adults. Tickets for students with a valid college ID and those 18 and under are $4 per day. Children two and under will be admitted free.
Tickets will be sold at the gate of both the Cardinal Park Track Stadium and at the throws field located near old Parkway Field. Wristbands will be issued so that fans can get in at both venues throughout the day.
