
Spirit Teams Sweep Nationals Again

Daytona Beach, Fla. - The University of Louisville Ladybirds Dance Team , All-Girl Cheer Team and Co-Ed Cheer Team won the National Cheerleading Association's (NCA) National Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida today for the second consecutive season. Last season Louisville became the only school in the history of the competition to sweep all three competitions and this season repeated for an unprecedented second time.
Friday's win was the third consecutive title for the Ladybirds and the Co-Ed Cheer Team. The Championships will be aired on CBS Sports April 17 with a time to be determined. All three teams were ranked first (based on submitted video entry tapes) going into the preliminary round.
"We did not think it was possible to do this again," said Todd Sharp, spirit coordinator. "It was amazing to become the first school to sweep the competition last season and to do it again was pretty amazing. There were over 200 schools here competing and to come out on top of all these talented teams is remarkable. They worked very hardthis season and overcame a lot of challenges and obstacles to get to this point."
The Cardinals also won the partner stunt competition. The teams are expected to arrive in Louisville late Sunday evening.
Top Three Finishes Dance Competition: 1. Louisville, 2. Southern California, 3. Memphis
Co-Ed Cheer: 1. Louisville, 2. NC State, Houston, 3. Arizona
All-Girl: 1. Louisville 2. Rutgers, 3. Oklahoma
