Women's Tennis Falls 4-0 to TCU

TCU 4, LOUISVILLE 0 LOUISVILLE, Ky. - TCU advances to its third consecutive C-USA Women's Tennis Championship final after defeating fifth-seeded University of Louisville, 4-0, on Saturday at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. In a rematch of last year's final, TCU will face No. 1 seed Tulane on Sunday at noon. The Cardinals will take on No. 3 Houston in the third/fourth place match at 9 a.m. at Bass-Rudd.

"There is a reason that they are a top 25 caliber team and they showed us the reason why today," said U of L head coach Greg Davis.

TCU dominated in doubles, claiming all three matches. The duo of Saber Pierce and Ana Cetnik defeated Michele Spiess and Julia Hierl, 8-2, at No. 1. The tandem of Kelly Taylor and Natalie Laszkowski fell 8-3 at No. 2 doubles and Paige Eber and Christina Gogol fell 8-2.

"We were a little tentative in doubles and that set the tone for the match," said Davis.

In singles, The Horned Frogs' Ana Cetnik defeated Julia Hierl, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4, while Gloriann Lopez claimed a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Christina Gogol at No. 6. Pierce would then sweep Kelly Taylor, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3 singles to clinch the 4-0 victory for the Horned Frogs.

"We played the singles very well but we got too far behind early and TCU got the momentum and we were not able to change that back to our direction."

U of L will play Houston for third place at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Houston is a great team and that is a big match for us," said Davis. "It is an accomplishment to play for third for the second time in two years. We are not just happy to get there, we want to end the season on a positive note. We will have to play the best tennis of the year against Houston. We have raised our game during this tournament and against Houston that will have to happen again if we want to win."
