Tulane and Houston Both Advance at C-USA Tournament

TULANE 5, CHARLOTTE 0 No. 1 Tulane shut out Charlotte, 5-0, in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship on Friday at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Green Wave, who are ranked No. 15 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Rankings, have now improved their winning streak to 13 consecutive matches.
Tulane dominated early, claiming the doubles point. The duo of Maria Ivanov and Jenny Kuhn defeated Megan Bullins and Ali Piacente, 8-4, at No. 3. No. 21-ranked duo of Nancy Kockott and Dorottya Magas also claimed an 8-4 decision over Ofra Friedman and Kathy Robey.
In singles action, Maria Ivanov cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Laura Swain at No. 1 and Kuhn also swept at No. 2 with a score of 6-1, 6-2 against Friedman.
Vying for its second consecutive C-USA team title, Tulane advances to the semifinals and will face either Houston or Marquette on Saturday at noon.

Houston clinched the doubles point when Yolandi Terblanche and Kami Miller downed Francina Bonnelly and Eva Trujillo Herrera at the No. 3 spot.
In singles, Miranda Foley swept Marquette's Veronica Garcia Briseno, 6-1, 6-1, while Diana Martin also claimed a straight-set victory over Callan Smith, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3.
