DePaul Edges Bearcats in C-USA Opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - No. 4 DePaul advanced to the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship, after claiming a 4-2 win over 13th-seeded Cincinnati on Thursday at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Blue Demons will now face fifth-seeded Louisville at Seneca Park on Friday at 3 p.m. (EST).
Cincinnati came out strong early in the match to claim the doubles point. Lyndsey Molony and Hannah Hinton upset DePaul's No. 1 tandem of Marina Parashkevova and Natalie Matko, 8-2. Cristina Reyes and Mariana Lozano outlasted Brenda Leung and Petra Rehusova, 8-4, at the No. 3 spot.
In singles action, the Blue Demons came back to take the lead with Parashkevova sweeping Reyes, 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 position and DePaul's No. 5 singles player Rehusova claiming a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Jill Klauk. After helping the Bearcats clinch the doubles point, Hinton nabbed another win, posting a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Natalie Matko at No. 3.
The Blue Demons clinched the victory after Gergana Ganeva came back in the second set to capture a 7-5, 6-4 win over Cincinnati's Molony.
Cincinnati will now compete in the consolation bracket and will face either Marquette or Southern Miss at Seneca Park at 9 a.m.Thursday, April 15
