Western Kentucky head coach Mary Taylor Cowles
"More than anything I am disappointed in myself for not getting this team ready to play."
Was it a let down after the win over Vanderbilt
"I hope not. As good as that win was, it was done and behind us."
On Louisville being able to drive against them
"We are not going to change our defensive style. We are still going to be aggressive, just work on our rotation. When the opponent comes at you because they think they can drive on you, that means we have to go practice and get better at that. Our team never got comfortable offensively."
On the rivalry
"This game, losing in Louisville on a Sunday afternoon does not make our season. I think we are the best team in the state of Kentucky. When it means so much to these other universities, it says a lot about of our tradition."
Louisville head coach Tom Collen
"I think this is a great win today. It's a great rivalry between two schools with pretty solid basketball traditions. I thought that this rivalry was a healthy rivalry for the state. As we try to build our program here, we need rivalries. That's what excites fans. We had a great crowd today because this is a rivalry."
"I thought it was a great game for us, rivalry aside, because it was the first time this year we had to play without Jazz Covington. Jazz is obviously the centerpiece for us. Even though she ended up in double figures, she didn't play the majority of the game like Crystal [Kelly] did. I thought it was important for our players to believe they could win without Jazz on the floor. We came back and took that lead without Jazz on the floor. I think this was the most important thing that came out of the day, the fact that we learned how to win against a quality opponent without our best player being on the floor. I'm really proud of our kids for stepping up and doing what they did today."
On Missy Taylor's play
"Missy is rapidly becoming that kid that we expect to score just like we expect Jazz to score. She is just starting to get herself in a groove, especially from the three-point line. We expect her to make those shots. She was huge for us. She became one of those focal points for us when Jazz went out."
On Angel Bradley and Jess Huggins
"Western is an extremely aggressive team. I think they put themselves at risk by playing that way. They open themselves up to penetration. I don't think we consider ourselves a great guard attack team off the dribble but when you run into an opponent that's gonna come out and put there hands on you. You have to take it to the basket and that's what we did. I think those two kids stepped up. They became crunch time players that would put the ball in their hands and ram it down somebody's throat and look to try to be scorers for us. So they were crucial as well."
