LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- - University of Louisville softball coach Sandy Pearsall has announced that Brittney Counts, Kristi Cunningham and Kassie Stanfill have signed National Letters-of-Intent to continue their softball careers at the University of Louisville in the fall of 2005.
Counts, an outfielder/second baseman from Fishers, Ind., is a senior at Hamilton Southeastern High School. She is a two-time all-district and Hoosier Cross Roads all-conference team member and was named to the Indianapolis Star All-Metro first team as a sophomore and junior. Counts also plays for the Indiana Twisters.
"We are excited about Brittney's potential in the outfield," said Pearsall. "She has tremendous speed and is a very good slap hitter. It has been a long time since I've had a player from Hamilton Southeastern High School and I'm looking forward to Brittney joining our team."
Cunningham is an infielder/pitcher from Gallatin, Tenn. She is currently a senior at Davidson Academy in Nashville, where she is a three-time all-state and all-midstate team member. She has also earned district all-tournament team honors for the past three years. As a junior, Cunningham was named district MVP and earned the Christian Student athlete all-American award. She also plays for the Nashville Nighthawks `A' team.
"Kristi is a tremendous athlete," said Pearsall. "She has very solid pitching skills and is an excellent all-around player who has the ability to step in and play wherever we need her. She has great quickness and is a valuable addition to our program."
Stanfill, a pitcher/outfielder from Goodlettsville, Tenn., is a senior at the 2004 Class AAA Softball State Champion Beech High School. She is a two-time all-midstate team member and earned District 9 AAA MVP honors as a sophomore and junior. Stanfill was also named Sumner County Player of the Year in 2003 and 2004. She played for Nashville Nighthawks Gold team.
"We're extremely pleased to have Kassie join us next season," said Pearsall. "She brings a great deal of athleticism to the team. She will not only be a force on the mound, but also an asset in the outfield. We look for her to contribute significantly to our offense."
The University of Louisville softball team will open the 2005 season Feb. 4-6 at the Clearwater Invitational in Clearwater, Fla. The Cards are coming off of a record-setting 2004 season in which they finished with a program-best 41-19 record and the school's first NCAA appearance.
