LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville rowing team opened its 2003 fall campaign Saturday and defeated Murray State in all five races throughout the evening. The event was held on the Ohio River waterfront between the Cardinal Boathouse and Towhead Island.
In the first four races, a different set of 6 rowers rowing in 6's competed each race. The Cardinals won the only race involving 8's by eight seconds.
"We are fortunate to race this early and identify what needs to be done to improve," said U of L head coach Richard Ruggieri. "Rowing conditioning will continue to improve resulting in better technique and greater boat speed. Our strength this year is a varsity squad of 25 competing for seats in the varsity 8. The athletes have been motivated and working well together as a unit and it is my hope that competition, team dynamics and focus will allow us to reach a higher level of speed."
