Women's tennis player MacKenzie Mekus will join the University of Louisville roster as a transfer after two years at Southwest Texas State after signing a financial aid agreement to continue her playing career with the Cardinals.
"We are very excited about MacKenzie becoming a part of the Cardinal family," said first year coach Greg Davis, whose squad posted the most wins ever this spring. "MacKenzie is an experienced player who is very athletic and will add depth to our team."
Mekus will become eligible in the fall of 2003 with junior standing. The 5-8, Lexington Catholic product was ranked as high as No. 2 in the 18's in age group tennis in the state of Kentucky. At Southwest Texas State in San Marcos, Texas, she played No. 4-6 singles and No. 2-3 doubles.
"We look forward to her arrival on campus in the fall," said Davis. "She is a competitive player who won a high percentage of her matches."
