
Women's Tennis Closes Season with Doubleheader Sweep

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville women's tennis team closed out the regular season by beating Xavier 5-2 and IUPU-Ft. Wayne 7-0 Tuesday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
In the match against Xavier, the Musketeers took the doubles point as Lauren Clary and Stephanie Bauer defeated Louisville's Marie Louise Frolich-Hansen and Kelly Taylor 8-6 at the top seed and Katy Wiles and Lindsay Dressman beat Paige Eber and Jasmin Singh 8-4 at No. 3. Louisville's Julie Penn and Melisa San Martin edged Kate Weightman and Kristen Clary 9-8 at No. 2.
In singles, Frolich-Hansen topped Lauren Clary 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 at No. 1 and Taylor posted a 7-5, 6-2 win over Bauer at the two-spot. Eber beat Kristen Clary 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 while San Martin defeated Weightman 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4. Penn won the No. 5 seed, topping Kelley 6-2, 6-2. Xavier's Emily Tuchserer posted the Musketeer's only singles point with a 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 win over Mariana Torres at No. 6.
In the second match of the day, the Cardinals claimed the doubles point as Frolich-Hansen and Taylor teamed to defeat Beth Miller and Jill Carie 8-0 at No. 1 and San Martin and Kelly Kiehna topped Michelle Humphrey and Stephanie Blaney 8-2 at No. 2. The third doubles match was not played.
The Cardinals swept the singles in straight sets as Eber defeated Blaney 6-0, 6-0 at the top seed and Torres beat Carie 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2. Singh topped Humphrey 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 and Casie Skaggs closed out the singles wins with a 2-6, 6-3 (4) decision over Miller at No. 4. IUPU-Ft. Wayne defaulted at Nos. 5 and 6.
"We had a great performance in singles and doubles by senior Melisa San Martin who was playing her final home match," said U of L head coach Greg Davis. "We are still working to get a consistent performance out of all six doubles players. Once we pull together and perform to our capabilities at the same time, we will be in good shape. We still have a lot of goals yet to reach this season and we are working hard to meet those goals by the end of the Conference USA tournament."
The Cardinals (19-6) will travel to New Orleans for the Conference USA Championship April 11-14.
