LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated visiting Arkansas-Little Rock 5-2 Thursday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

The Cardinals swept the doubles as Cody Conley and Jakob Gustafsson edged Mark Edney and Alexei Poutchinets 9-7 at the top seed; Harry Walsh and Matt Mayer teamed to beat Juan Carlos Baca and Sebastian Falk 8-6 at No. 2 and Octavian Nicodim and Sebastian Aspillaga topped David Baxendine and Mithun Murali 8-4 at the three-spot.

In singles, Conley took the No. 1 seed with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win over Poutchinets. Mayer defeated Murali 4-6,6-1, 6-4 at No. 4. Jhonny Berrido beat Baxendine 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 and Walsh defeated Jarrad Bunt 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 at the six seed.

Falk edged Paulo Carvalho 7-6, 7-5 at No. 2 and Baca defeated Nicodim 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 to claim singles points for the Trojans.

"This was a big win for us," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "I wouldn't' be surprised if Arkansas-Little Rock won their conference and made it to the NCAA tournament. It will be an even bigger win a month from now when (Arkansas-Little Rock) beat some other solid teams. Cody Conley is succeeding in the face of emotional grief. Matt Mayer and Harry Walsh turned the entire match around by coming back and winning in three sets. Jhonny Berrido just posted his 27th win and is definitely the top freshman in Conference USA. I could not be prouder than I am today."

Louisville (15-4) will play host to No. 63 Indiana State Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
