LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's track and field team will compete in eight different states during the regular indoor and outdoor seasons and will host the Conference USA Outdoor Championships for the second time in three years in 2004.
During the indoor season, the Cardinals will make three trips to Bloomington, Ind., a pair of stops in Carbondale, Ill., and visits to Findlay, Ohio and Indianapolis before traveling to Houston for the Conference USA Indoor Championships in February.
National qualifiers will also have the opportunity to compete at the USA Indoor National Championships in Boston and the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
The outdoor season includes trips to Florida, Illinois, Texas, Tennessee, Indiana, Iowa and Ohio. In addition to the C-USA Championships, Louisville will host the Cardinal Open for the fourth straight year on April 23 at Cardinal Park.
Those student-athletes who meet selected qualifying marks will travel to Baton Rouge, La., for the NCAA Mid-East Regionals at the end of May with the goal of advancing on to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas.
The USATF Junior Nationals will be held in Buffalo, N.Y., while the U.S. Olympic Team Trials will be in Sacramento, Calif., for selected qualifiers.
"Our women's track and field team is committed to competing at the highest level in the country and scheduling is a big part of that," said U of L head coach Warren Bye. "We have scheduled competitions at the Texas Relays, host of the 2004 NCAA Championships, the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville and the Drake Relays in Iowa. These sites allow our program to compete against the best track and field athletes in the nation."
The Cardinals open their indoor season December 12 when they travel to Carbondale, Ill., for the Fast Start Invitational.
