
Field Hockey's Hershey and Netzler Earn Regional Honors

University of Louisville field hockey players Christy Hershey and Olivia Netzler were named to the STX National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-West Region team. Hershey earned first team honors, while Netzler was named to the second team.
Hershey, senior goalkeeper from Palmyra, Pa., finished the season with a 1.20 goal-against average and an .821 save percentage. The 2003 Mid-American Conference Field Hockey Player of the Year also had five shutouts on the season and holds the school record with 24.5 career shutouts. She earned MAC Player of the Week honors twice this year. Hershey was the Cardinals' first All-American, a three-time STX/NFHCA West Region selection and a three-time All-MAC team selection. She has also been selected to play in the 2003 NFHCA Senior All-Star game. Hershey will be eligible for All-America consideration for the second time in her collegiate career.
Netzler, a senior forward from New South Wales, Australia, led the team with nine goals and 21 points on the season and earned MAC Player of the Week honors on Sept. 22. After joining the Cardinals as a sophomore, she led the team in points in each of her three years and recently moved to first on the list for career points with 80. A broken arm ended her career with three games remaining in the regular season and left her second on the school's list for career goals with 32. Netzler is a three-time All-MAC selection, a two-time STX/NFHCA West Regional selection and was also selected to play in the 2003 NFHCA Senior All-Star game.
U of L finished the 2003 season with a 13-10 (6-4 MAC) record after winning the MAC tournament and earning the program's first NCAA bid.
