
Men's Soccer Defeats IUPUI 3-2

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Cardinals defeated host IUPUI 3-2 in the second game of the tournament. The Louisville offense clicked from the beginning with sophomore Justin Pierre taking advantage of an IUPUI defensive miscue scoring his first goal of the season in the first minute of action.
IUPUI knotted the score in the 10th minute when senior Ben Higginbotham capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity against sophomore keeper Brian Schoenbein.
Freshman midfielder Jelani Grant answered for UofL just moments later, when he took a pass from Fernando Tolomelli and beat IUPUI goalkeeper Dave Palmer for his second goal of the season. Newcomer nTolomelli pushed the lead to 3-1 late in the match when he weaved through the IUPUI defense for his second goal of the season.
The Jaguars cut the lead to one when Higginbotham headed home a pass from freshman Shane Bonin in the 84th minute. The Cardinals were able to hold off the the Jaguars.
For the match, Palmer had three saves while David Gisler had four saves in relief of Schoenbein, who came out midway through the first half.
Louisville will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 6 against Radford in Cardinal Park.
