LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Jewish Hospital's Frazier Rehab was recently named the "Official Health Care Provider" for the University of Louisville's Athletic Department. The Sports Medicine program began in October 1997 when the two institutions began creating a model that would encompass taking care of the entire athlete, not just upon an injury.
"This program has since become a national model for intercollegiate athletics across the country," said Tom Jurich, athletic director for the University of Louisville. "Very few university can boast such world-class medical care. When an athlete enters our program, their health concerns are top of mind for their coach, athletic trainer and administrator. It is because of this partnership, that our athletes understand the importance of prevention and education. This allows the athlete to perfect their game and become better athletes."
"Our ultimate goal is to keep the athletes healthy and in the game they love," said Hank Wagner, president of Jewish Hospital HealthCare Services. "We are pleased to be named the Official Health Care Provider for the University and look forward to the program continuing to flourish over the next five years."
The Sports Medicine program is more than physicals and treatment of injuries - it focuses on performance enhancement through education, prevention, assistance and action. Jewish Hospital's Frazier Rehab has created a network of over thirty physicians to care for these athletes - from emergency care to cardiologists.
This partnership also allowed the medical management of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium and Freedom Hall. Every home football and basketball game have Health Care Express, a 40-foot mobile medical unit on-site with portable x-ray equipment, and First Aid care for the fans and the athletes.
Jewish Hospital's Frazier Rehab Institute Sports Medicine Program is the official health care provider of the Louisville Cardinal Athletics, Bellarmine University's Athletic Department, and Male High School. This unique program focuses on everything from prevention to treatment, including physicals, MRIs, bone scans, surgeries, and much more.
