Women's Tennis Names Season Award Winners

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville women's tennis team announced their team awards for the 2001-02 season.
Julie Penn, a sophomore from Wheaton, Ill. was named team MVP. She posted a 15-15 overall record at No. 3 singles for the Cardinals and 12-8 in dual matches.
The 110 percent Award was given to Paige Eber. The sophomore from Naples, Fla. posted a 9-23 record primarlly at No. 5 singles.
Mariana Torres won as the Most Improved Player. Torres, a sophomore from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, was 13-19. She finished the season strongly with a 4-2 record at No. 6 singles.
The Becky Hudson Scholar Athlete Award went to No. 1 singles player Melisa San Martin.
The women's tennis team posted the highest team GPA at U of L with a 3.49 overall team mark. It marks the seventh time since the award originated that the women's tennis team has clinched the honor.
