Former Cardinal Broadcaster, Administrator Jack Tennant Dies

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Jack Tennant, a member of the University of Louisville athletics staff for 19 years as an administrator, radio announcer and public address announcer, died Monday at his home in Louisville. He was 73.
Tennant joined the U of L staff in 1974. He announced Cardinal football and men's basketball games on radio for several years, including the Cards' 1980 NCAA Championship basketball season. As an administrator, Tennant oversaw many of the Cardinals' varsity sports, guided U of L's NCAA compliance efforts and worked closely with football and men's basketball scheduling. He retired in the fall of 1993, but remained active with the department in special events and serving as the Cards' football public address announcer until 1998. He announced the U of L Spring Football Game on April 20.
Tennant came to U of L after a 17-year association with West Virginia University, his last four years there as head of the Mountaineer Scholarship Fund and director of the Mountaineer Sports Network. As the Mountaineer's play-by-play announcer, Tennant was chosen by his peers as West Virginia's Sportscaster of the Year in 1971 and 1972.
Arrangements
Visitation will be at Pearson-Ratterman Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road, on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The family has requested that memorial donations may be sent in Jack Tennant's name to the Cardinal Athletic Fund, University of Louisville, Louisville, KY 40292 toward establishing a scholarship in his name.
