Young Named to Verizon Academic All-District Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville senior Trish Young earned her second academic honor of the week as she was named to the Verizon Academic All-District IV Women's Track & Field/Cross Country First Team Thursday.
Earlier in the week, Young was one of six student-athletes to receive the Conference USA Postgraduate Scholarship Award.
Young compiled a 3.91 undergraduate GPA and a 4.0 graduate GPA as she obtained her bachelor's degree in exercise science and sports medicine and a master's in exercise physiology from U of L. The two-time Conference USA Scholar-Athlete of the Year and two-time C-USA javelin champion finished second in the event at the 2002 C-USA Championship.
Young, who holds the school record in the javelin with a throw of 160 feet, 10 inches, was a three-year captain for the Cardinals and won the Ed Kallay Award, U of L's highest honor to a graduating senior.
A member of Phi Kappa Phi and Golden Key National Honor Societies, Young was also active in community service through CardsCARE, the Student-Athlete Advisory Council and as a physiotherapy volunteer at Floyd Memorial Hospital.
The district teams are made up of student-athletes from NCAA Division I schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher.
Teams are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.
Young will be added to the national ballot for the Verizon Academic All-America Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, which will be announced June 20. Members of the first team from every district will be on the national ballot.
