KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Louisville women's rowing team finished second in three of four races against the University of Tennessee Saturday morning in Knoxville.
In the Varsity 8+ race, the Cardinals finished the 2000m race in 6:21.80, just 1.9 seconds behind the top Tennessee boat.
"We have a great deal of respect for Tennessee," said head coach Richard Ruggieri. "Last year we lost the Varsity 8+ race by 28 seconds, so it is encouraging to see how much ground we've made up by racing them to the very end."
The Varsity 4+ and Novice 4+ squads each finished five seconds behind the Vols in their respective races, while the Novice 8+ team placed third out of three boats.
"We learn something every week from racing," said Ruggieri. "We are looking forward to coming home and pushing each other to the next level."
Louisville travels to Cincinnati next weekend to race Indiana and West Virginia on Saturday and Cincinnati and Eastern Michigan on Sunday.
