
Women's Basketball Falls in Overtime

Chicago, Ill. - It was deja vu all over again for the Cardinals in Chicago but this time DePaul would come out on top, winning 83-81 in overtime Friday night at the DePaul Athletic Center. Senior Lenae Williams led the Blue Demons with 30 points and LaKisha Hoffman led the Cards with a double-double, 21points and 14 rebounds.
Sara Nord finished the game with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Marju Sober added 20 points and Amanda Wolke and Sabrina Minter each chipped in 13.
Louisville finished the game shooting 44.4 percent from the field and outrebounded DePaul 46-39. DePaul finished the game shooting 40 percent from the field, including 46.9 from behind the arc.
Hoffman put the Cards on top first in the overtime period connecting on a layup. Then freshman Jenni Dant hit two free throws to knot the score at 78. Williams then hit a jumper with one minute remaining in the extra period. Then Nord nailed a long range three-pointer to put Louisville up 81-80 with 43 seconds left to play.
Minter was then called for a foul and Williams connected on two from the line to put the Blue Demons up 82-21 with 22 seconds remaining. Minter's three point attempt bounced off the rim and DePaul grabbed the rebound with four seconds remaining. Williams hit one of two from the stripe to put DePaul up 83-81. The Cardinals were not able to get a shot off.
DePaul's Lindsay Forsberg hit a three-pointer with 1:39 remaining to cut the Louisville lead to 74-71. Then on the next possession Kara Kessans fouled going for a rebound and Dant connected on two free throws to pull within one. Then Wolke hit a jumper with just under a minute remaining to put the Cards ahead 76-73. Then it was Dant again, hitting a three-pointer to knot the score at 78 with just over 40 seconds remaining. The Cards could not score and the game went into overtime.
Louisville finally broke open a close first half when Nord completed a three-point play with 7:05 remaining to give the Cardinals their biggest lead of the game at 27-20. Louisville pushed the lead to 36-27 with 3:40 remaining in the first half off a fastbreak layup from Minter to Wolke. DePaul's Lindsay Forsberg hit a long range three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the lead to 38-35 at the break.
The Cardinals shot 50 percent in the first half and had two players in double figures with Sober leading the way with 11 points and Hoffman chipping in 10. The Cardinal defense held the Blue Demons to just 32.1 percent. . The Cardinals will face Marquette on the road Sunday Feb. 17 at 3:00 p.m.
