
Women's Basketball Makes a Big Comeback To Win

Louisville, Ky. - Louisville came from 20 points at the half to defeat Saint Louis 63-60 Sunday afternoon in Freedom Hall. Four Cardinals scored in double-figures with junior forward Amanda Wolke leading the way with 17 points. Wolke registered a double-double with 13 rebounds and teammate LaKisha Hoffman also put in a double-double performance with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
After shooting a miserable 20 percent from the field in the first half, Louisville shot a scorching 57.7 percent in the second half. Louisville switched to a trapping defense and forced Saint Louis into 13 of their 18 turnovers in the second half.
The Cardinals converted those turnovers into 15 points in the second half. The Cardinal defense also held the Billikens to 0 percent from behind the arc in the second half.
Louisville started the second half with an 11-2 run. Point guard Sara Nord nailed a three-pointer at the 14:50 mark to cut the Billiken lead to 40-34. Junior guard Sabrina Minter knotted the score at 46 with a layup at the 7:41 mark.
Wolke was fouled getting her own rebound and made 1 of 2 from the line to give the Cardinals their first lead since the opening bucket of the game.
The Billikens tied the score again at 54 with 2:35 remaining off a steal and fastbreak layup by junior guard Star Jackson. Then on the next play Saint Louis' La Kia Jones stole the ball and scored a layup to put the Billikens up 56-54 with 2:22 remaining.
Nord the tied the score at 56, hitting 2 of 2 from the foul line. After a missed shot by Saint Louis and a defensive rebound by Hoffman, Minter hit a big three-point shot to put the Cards up 59-56 with just over a minute remaining. Minter was then called for a blocking foul and the Billikens' Jackson hit 2 of 2 from the line, to cut the lead to 59-58 with 1:03 remaining.
Nord got the ball up the court and Hoffman scored on a wide open layup to put Louisville ahead 61-58 with 57 seconds left to play. The Billikens' Angie Lewis then scored on a second chance opportunity to cut the lead to 61-60 with 23 seconds remaining.
Minter hit 1 of 2 from the line and Hoffman stole the baseball pass down the court that set up a Saint Louis foul on Nord. Nord hit the second of two shots with nine seconds remaining. Saint Louis missed a three-point shot and Nord grabbed the defensive rebound for the win.
Saint Louis used a 15-3 run at the 11 minute mark of the first half, building a 27-11 lead at the 5:24 mark of the first half. The Billikens continued to build the lead behind 57.1 percent shooting from behind the arc. Saint Louis led 38-18 lead at the break.
The Cardinals will face DePaul on the road Friday Feb. 15 at 8:00 p.m.
