Cincinnati, Ohio - The University of Louisville men's soccer team netted a goal with six minutes remaining in the first half to defeat the University of Cincinnati's 1-0 Wednesday night at Meyers Field. The win extends the Cardinals current win streak to three and improves to 3-3-1 in conference play. The Bearcats (8-7-1, 4-4-0) outshot the Cardinals 11-6 for the game, snapping UC's three game win streak.
The Bearcats' Tom Weable fouled a Cardinal player deep in UC's end with just over six minutes left in the first half. The Bearcats were able to clear the first free kick, but not completely out of the zone. Freshman standout Jelani Grant gathered the loose ball and blasted a shot from 30 yards out, giving the Cards a 1-0 lead at the halftime.
UC frantically attempted to come back in the second half, pounding the Cardinal goal with six shots and several crosses. Louisville keeper Brad Sokolowski kept the Bearcats at bay, collecting six saves with four coming in the second half.
The Cardinals will host TCU on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7:00 p.m. in Cardinal Park.
