Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team (6-10-2, 4-3-1) defeated TCU (3-13-1, 2-6-1) 3-1 on Saturday night at Cardinal Park. The win marks the fourth consecutive conference win for the Cardinals.
"We got off to a very positive start to the game," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "The 3-0 lead in the first 25 minutes gave us a false sense of security. We got complacent toward the end of the first half and gave up a sloppy goal. In the second half TCU made some adjustments and caused us some problems."
"Our midfield didn't seem to have that same bite it has had in the last three games. However I am very proud of these guys and how they pulled through."
Freshman Jelani Grant struck first for the Cardinals beating two defenders off the dribble to score in the 14th minute of play. The two minutes later, Grant took a corner kick and senior Courtenay Commander headed it in for the score.
In the 25th minute of play, junior Nathan Stephens took a cross from Justin Pierre to score and put the Cards up 3-0. In the 33rd minute of play, TCU's Nick Browne slipped past Cardinal keeper Brad Sokolowski to score.
Louisville outshot TCU 12-10. Sokolowski finished the game with five saves, while TCU keeper Justin Durst collected two.
The Cardinals will be back in action in Cardinal Park on Wednesday, Nov. 6 as the host Charlotte at 7:00 p.m. Admission to all Cardinal Park events is free.
